Kurz's party commanding strong lead in Austrian EU election- poll projection

A polls-based projection showed Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz's conservative People's Party commanding a strong lead in his country's European election on Sunday, the eve of a no-confidence motion against Kurz in parliament.
The projection, based on polling of 5,200 voters carried out between Tuesday and Sunday, mainly before the election, showed support for Kurz's party at 34.5%, the opposition Social Democrats at 23.5% and the far-right Freedom Party, whose leader quit a week ago over a video sting, in third place at 17.5%. The surveys and projection were carried out by pollsters SORA and ARGE Wahlen for national broadcaster ORV, broadcaster ATV and news agency APA. The first results will be published at 11 p.m. (2100 GMT).
