3 die, 16 missing as boat capsizes in Hungary

Three people died and sixteen went missing when a river boat used for tourism capsized in the Hungarian capital on Wednesday with dozens of people on board, and a rescue effort was underway, state television M1 reported.

National news agency MTI cited the shipping company as saying the boat carried 34 people, including crew, mostly tourists from Asia. Police and emergency services were not immediately reachable to verify the fatalities and injured.

The boat was moored near the Hungarian parliament building and reportedly was hit by another tourist vessel, then turned over on the river, which has been flooding with strong currents following a rainstorm in Budapest.
