Srinagar authorities brace for protests called in Srinagar

Authorities Friday imposed restrictions under Section 144 of the CrPc in parts of Srinagar as a precautionary measure in view of protests called by separatists.

The restrictions were imposed in five police station areas -- Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safakadal and M R Gunj, a police official said.

The separatists under the banner of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had called for protests on Friday against the death of seven civilians in a blast at an encounter site in Kulgam district after a gunfight between security forces and militants.

Three militants were killed in the encounter.
