Uzbekistan's parliament passed a law on Friday calling a constitutional referendum on April 30 which if successful will allow President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to run for presidency again when his second term ends in 2026.

Both the current and the proposed versions of the constitution limit successive presidential terms to two for any one person, but officials have said that the adoption of a new constitution would reset the term count for the incumbent.
