The mayor of Nepal's capital on Tuesday left for a five-day visit to China to gain firsthand knowledge about the functioning of modern cities.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Bidhya Sundar Shakya and Deputy Mayor Hariprabha Khadgi Shrestha embarked on the trip to attend various programmes being organised in Beijing and different sister cities of China, according to a notice issued by KMC.

They will attend the China International Friendship Cities Conference-2018 being held in Hunan City from November 14 to 16. They will also attend a ceremony in Lhasa on Wednesday where they will receive 'Outstanding Foreign Friendship Award' from the city.

The programme in Hunan city is being organised by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, China International Friendship Association and the Hunan Municipal People's Government.

The KMC said the visit will help the Nepalese officials to learn about techniques of developing modern and environment-friendly cities.
