Auto-Rickshaw Driver and Tailor Arrested for Kidnapping Infant in Maharashtra

An auto-rickshaw driver and a tailor were arrested in Maharashtra’s Thane district for kidnapping a six-month-old boy. The child was rescued from the tailor’s home. The driver had abducted the infant while he was sleeping with his mother on a footpath. Following a complaint, police launched an investigation and traced the suspects.

An auto-rickshaw driver and a tailor were taken into custody on Sunday in Thane district of Maharashtra for allegedly kidnapping a six-month-old boy, according to an official statement. The infant was rescued from the tailor’s residence in Ulhasnagar.

The abduction took place while the child was sleeping beside his mother, a garbage collector, on a footpath early on Friday morning, reported Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-III, Kalyan, Sachin Gunjal. After the mother filed a complaint, the MFC police registered an FIR under Indian Penal Code section 363 (kidnapping) and initiated a search operation by forming three specialized teams.

The police employed various methods, including analyzing CCTV footage and technical inputs, to narrow down the suspects. Dinesh Bhaiyallal Saroj, the auto-rickshaw driver, led authorities to the tailor, Ankitkumar Rajendrakumar Prajapati. The child was found at Prajapati’s home and safely returned to his mother. Additional charges under IPC sections 370 (trafficking of persons) and 365 (kidnapping with intent to confine) were subsequently added.
