Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, accompanied by two cabinet colleagues, visited Balodabazar city on Tuesday after a mob set fire to a government office and numerous vehicles during a protest by the Satnami community against the alleged vandalization of a religious structure.

Holding the Home portfolio, Sharma mandated strict actions against those responsible for the arson, according to an official statement. On Monday, the protest turned violent, leading to the torching of over two dozen cars, 70 two-wheelers, and a government building.

Several police officers were injured in stone-pelting incidents. The destruction of 'jaitkham,' a sacred symbol of the Satnami community, prompted the protests. Following the incident, the district administration imposed section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to prohibit large gatherings until June 16. Deputy CM Sharma expressed his grief and called for stringent punishment for those involved in the riot. A judicial inquiry has been initiated by CM Vishnu Deo Sai to investigate the vandalization of the 'jaitkham.'
