ICC Issues Arrest Warrant for Iyad Ag Ghaly Over Mali War Crimes

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Iyad Ag Ghaly for war crimes and crimes against humanity in northern Mali during 2012-2013. Ghaly, also known as Abou Fadl, allegedly led the Ansar Dine group, which controlled Timbuktu alongside a local Al Qaeda branch.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Friday published an arrest warrant against Iyad Ag Ghaly for war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed in northern Mali between January 2012 and January 2013.

Ghaly, also known as "Abou Fadl", is believed to have been the leader of the Ansar Dine group, which at the time had control of Timbuktu, Mali, jointly with a local Al Qaeda branch, the court said.
