External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday engaged in separate high-level meetings with his Bangladeshi, Bhutanese, and Sri Lankan counterparts in New Delhi. The focus of these discussions was on strengthening bilateral ties across various sectors.

These consultations occurred during the retreat session of the foreign ministers from BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) member nations. Jaishankar highlighted the frequent high-level exchanges with Bangladesh, emphasizing the robust relationship and discussing further advancements.

In his meeting with Bhutanese Foreign Minister DN Dhungyel, Jaishankar explored ways to progress the unique friendship and goodwill between India and Bhutan. Discussions with Sri Lanka's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Tharaka Balasuriya centered around the enhancement of the bilateral partnership. Besides India, BIMSTEC includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, and Bhutan.
