India, Indonesia, Australia Reaffirm Indo-Pacific Commitment

India, Indonesia, and Australia have reaffirmed their commitment to a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific. During a 'focal points' meeting, they discussed collaboration within the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative and ASEAN's Outlook on the Indo-Pacific. The countries aim to advance shared values and maritime cooperation.

India, Indonesia, and Australia have renewed their pledge to work towards a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region. The commitment came during a 'focal points' meeting of the India-Indonesia-Australia trilateral dialogue.

Discussion topics included collaboration opportunities under the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative and the Indian Ocean Rim Association's frameworks, as well as maritime domain awareness, marine pollution, and blue economy cooperation, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The countries noted a convergence between India's Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI) and ASEAN's Outlook on the Indo-Pacific. India has supported ASEAN's centrality in the region, one of its most influential groupings.

At the East Asia Summit in Bangkok in 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the Indo-Pacific Ocean's Initiative (IPOI) to promote sustainable maritime practices.
