Scores of Congress leaders were detained on Thursday as authorities foiled their attempt to 'gherao' the Raj Bhawan in protest against the BJP-led Centre's alleged failure to curb terrorism.
Hundreds of Congress supporters, led by AICC incharge J&K affairs Bharat Singh Solanki and Pradesh Congress Committee president Vikar Rasool Wani, began marching from the party headquarters on Residency Road. Their march was halted by police, who placed barricades and ultimately detained the leaders.
"The BJP's claims of post-2019 development have fallen flat given the rising terror incidents," Solanki told reporters. Wani criticized the BJP for the ongoing terrorism and lack of statehood, promising continued agitation at the district and block levels.
