Argentina's Jewish community commemorated the 30th anniversary of the AMIA Jewish community center bombing, which claimed 85 lives. President Javier Milei pledged to address decades of investigative failures and inconsistencies.
The attack, carried out in 1994 by Hezbollah militants reportedly directed by Iran, remains the deadliest of its kind in Argentina. Highlighting Argentina's determination, Milei declared his intention to propose new legislation for conducting trials in absentia for the suspects and promised to enhance national intelligence efforts to avert future incidents.
Despite Iran's denial, Argentine prosecutors have charged Iranian officials and Hezbollah members. Milei emphasized the significance of the April court ruling blaming Iran and compared the attack to recent hostilities involving Hamas. He also rebuked Tehran's threats, vowing steadfastness in defending Israeli rights. This commemoration underscores Argentina's ongoing struggle for justice and security in the face of terrorism.
