Karnataka Assembly Erupts Over Financial Irregularities in State-run Corporation

The Karnataka Legislative Assembly witnessed a chaotic session on Friday as opposition BJP and JD(S) members staged protests over alleged financial irregularities in a state-run corporation. They accused the government of 'loot' and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended his administration, conceding that a scam had occurred but assured strict action against the culprits. He countered the opposition's allegations by highlighting past scams during their tenure, particularly those involving the BJP, labeling the party the 'Pitamaha of corruption.'

The controversy revolves around the illicit transfer of Rs 187 crore from the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Ltd, with the opposition alleging misuse of SC/ST funds. Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister B Nagendra resigned on June 6 and is presently in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate for his involvement in the scam.
