The Jharkhand government has appealed to protesting contractual police assistants to end their ongoing agitation, promising to extend their services by a year.
The assistants demand direct recruitment into the police department and an increase in their honorarium. In response, senior police and administrative officials assured the protesters that they would receive various relaxations for police department appointments, including age concessions.
BJP criticized the lathi charge on protesters, with Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan accusing the Hemant Soren government of failing to address the people's grievances. The assembly elections in the state are due later this year.
