The Supreme Court on Monday inquired Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra about any official mandates from the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments that compel eateries on the Kanwar Yatra route to display the owners' names.
A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and S V N Bhatti asked senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Moitra, to clarify whether any formal order had been issued, following his claims of a 'camouflaged' directive.
Singhvi contended that the protocols issued by the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand administrations contribute to identity-based exclusion and violate constitutional principles.
The hearing is ongoing, with Moitra seeking a stay on these directives, arguing they exacerbate inter-community discord.
