The group, which included a woman, two locals from Valliyoor, and a driver from Thiruvananthapuram, was apprehended by Kudankulam police on Monday. They were interrogated for nearly six hours, the official added.

Residents of Idinthakarai village alerted authorities after observing the presence of foreigners in their village.

Kudankulam hosts two 1,000 MWe nuclear reactors built with Russian assistance, with four more units under construction.
