Omar Abdullah Criticizes Modi Govt Over Persistent US Travel Advisories on J&K

Omar Abdullah, National Conference leader, criticized the Modi government's inability to change the US State Department's negative travel advisories for Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the persisting advisories despite claims of normalcy and peace in the region, pointing out that travel warnings remain stringent in J&K and other regions.

On Thursday, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah pointed out the Modi government's failure to alter the negative travel advisories issued by the US State Department regarding Jammu and Kashmir. Despite efforts to showcase normalcy and peace, such as tourism boosts and hosting the G-20 in Srinagar, US advisories still caution against travel to J&K.

Abdullah's remarks came in response to a recent advisory from the US State Department that advised citizens to avoid traveling to Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, the India-Pakistan border, and specific areas in central and eastern India affected by Naxalite activities.

While India overall is placed at Level 2 on the advisory scale, areas including Jammu and Kashmir, the India-Pakistan border, Manipur, and some central and eastern regions have been designated Level 4, with warnings about terrorism, civil unrest, and violence.
