In a significant operation, twenty-three Bangladeshi nationals were arrested at Agartala railway station on Saturday for attempting to travel to Chennai without valid documents, an official stated on Sunday.
A coordinated raid by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Government Railway Police (GRP) was carried out, leading to their detention, confirmed Tapas Das, officer-in-charge of the GRP police station in Agartala. The detainees have been remanded to a three-day police custody following their presentation in a local court.
The arrested individuals, aged between 21 and 49, intended to travel to Chennai via Guwahati in search of employment. In response to this incident and a spike in arrests of Bangladeshi nationals, the BSF's intelligence wing has intensified surveillance activities around railway stations.
