Congress MP Moves Privilege Motion Against PM Modi Over Expunged Video

Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi has submitted a notice to move a privilege motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for posting on social media a video featuring remarks by BJP MP Anurag Thakur, which were expunged from the Lok Sabha proceedings. Channi claims this act amounts to a breach of parliamentary privilege.

On Wednesday, Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi took a significant step by submitting a notice to initiate a privilege motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The action follows Modi’s social media post that contained a video with expunged remarks made by BJP MP Anurag Thakur.

The controversial remarks by Thakur, made during a discussion on the Union Budget, included an apparent reference to the caste of Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, causing a massive uproar in the Lok Sabha. Speaker Om Birla had expunged the remarks from the House proceedings.

Channi argues that by posting the video on social media, the Prime Minister breached parliamentary privilege, as expunged content should be treated as if it was never spoken. The Congress leader has urged the Speaker to admit the motion and initiate privilege proceedings against the Prime Minister.
