The Bombay High Court announced it will deliver its verdict on August 5 regarding the Maharashtra government's contentious tender process for providing subsidised ration kits to 1.7 crore beneficiaries ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi.

The court has asked the government to halt any further steps related to the tender until the decision is made. 'Hold your hands till then. We will pass the order on Monday (August 5),' stated the High Court.

The 'Anandacha Shidha' scheme, initially launched for Diwali and later extended to Gudi Padwa, aims to distribute subsidised food kits at Rs 100 each. Items include 1 kg of rava, chana dal, and sugar, and 1 litre of soybean oil. Several companies have challenged the tender process, contesting conditions requiring bidders to have 70 distribution units and 300 labourers per order.

Representing the state, Advocate General Birendra Saraf defended the conditions, emphasizing the need for timely distribution with only a month remaining until Ganesh Chaturthi.
