A constable was injured in Banswara district as protesters against the construction of a boundary wall for a proposed nuclear power plant resorted to stone-pelting, officials reported.
Banswara Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Agarwala stated that teargas shells were fired to manage the crowd at the central government project's site in Chhoti Sarvan.
Some families, whose land was acquired for the plant, are protesting despite being allotted alternative plots. They demand a hospital be established in the area before relocating, the police added.
The villagers gathered on Friday to protest the boundary wall's construction. During the protest, stone-pelting ensued, injuring a constable who is now hospitalized. Police had to use force to control the situation.
Superintendent Agarwala confirmed additional police personnel have been deployed and the situation is under control.
