A court in Gurugram handed down life sentences to four men on Monday for the murder of a 4-year-old boy and the attempted murder of his father, also imposing fines of Rs 1.67 lakh each. This was confirmed by police sources.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Diwan also sentenced a fifth accused, a minor, to a 10-year jail term, along with a fine of Rs 30,000.

The incident occurred on June 16, 2021, in Khalilpur village, Pataudi, when five individuals shot 4-year-old Bhavya while his mother was teaching him at home and injured his father Praveen Kumar.

The seriously injured father-son duo were rushed to a trauma center in Rewari, where Bhavya was declared dead. Praveen Kumar was referred to a private hospital for further treatment.

A police complaint was filed by Bharti, Kumar's wife, leading to the registration of an FIR at Pataudi police station. Law enforcement officials booked the accused on charges of murder and attempted murder.

The accused—Naveen alias Kainchi, Harish alias Baman, Yaman alias Baiya, and Paramjeet alias Susu—were arrested on June 17, 2021, along with a minor. A senior police officer reported that the crime was rooted in personal enmity. Two motorcycles, country-made pistols, and six cartridges were recovered from the accused.

The court, after reviewing the case arguments, sentenced four of the accused to rigorous life imprisonment and a Rs 1.67 lakh fine each. The minor received a 10-year sentence and a Rs 30,000 fine.
