A 52-year-old man allegedly killed his wife over a family dispute in Odisha's Jajpur district and later surrendered to police, according to officials on Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Abhimanyu Sahoo from Narayanpur village, has been charged with the murder of his 47-year-old wife, Sabita Sahoo.
Abhimanyu, an electrician, was married to Sabita for 25 years. Despite their long marriage, the couple had a turbulent relationship, mainly due to being childless. Frequent arguments over their inability to have children created strain.
On Wednesday afternoon, Sabita initiated an argument over a minor domestic issue when Abhimanyu returned from work. The spat escalated quickly, culminating in Abhimanyu stabbing Sabita. After the incident, he fled the scene but eventually turned himself in to the local police at night.
Abhimanyu's mother discovered Sabita in a pool of blood at their home upon her return. She raised an alarm, prompting neighbors to rush Sabita to Mangalpur Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Jajpur SDPO Satyabrata Lenka confirmed Abhimanyu's arrest and stated that arrangements are being made for Sabita's postmortem examination.
