Ukraine's Strategic Offensive: Major Drone Attacks on Russian Territory

Ukraine intensified its military efforts on Tuesday, deploying drones to strike two Russian regions as part of its largest offensive on Russian soil since the war began. Ground forces aimed to breach defensive lines and secure additional territory, with Ukrainian troops crossing the Russian border 530 km southwest of Moscow.

The surprise incursion, which President Vladimir Putin framed as a move to bolster Kyiv's negotiating stance and delay Russian advancements, saw Russia's defence ministry reporting the downing of 14 drones across Kursk, Belgorod, and Voronezh regions. Local officials warned of potential missile attacks.

Discrepancies in control claims emerged, with Kyiv alleging control over 1,000 square kilometres, while Russia countered with estimates of less than half of that. As conflict raged near key towns, the fate of facilities like the pivotal gas-pumping town of Sudzha remained uncertain. Amidst the chaos, civilian evacuations intensified, highlighting the persistent volatility of the region.
