North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reiterated his intent to strengthen cooperation with Russia, sending a message to President Vladimir Putin. The reaffirmation of ties occurred as Pyongyang celebrated its anniversary of independence from Japan—a significant historical moment.
The North Korean state media, KCNA, reported that this communication was a response to Putin's congratulatory note on the August 15 liberation day. During World War II, Soviet soldiers fought against Japan, creating a foundation for the enduring relationship between North Korea and Russia.
Kim emphasized the enduring friendship and solidarity between the two nations, underlining their strategic partnership. This comes amidst allegations from South Korea, Ukraine, and the United States, accusing Pyongyang of aiding Russia's military efforts in the Ukraine conflict. Despite these accusations, the historical and military ties between North Korea and Russia remain strong.
