Protests Erupt Over Trainee Doctor's Tragic Death in West Bengal

Amid protests against the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor in West Bengal, Asha Devi, Nirbhaya's mother, demanded Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's resignation for failing to handle the situation. Banerjee led a protest rally calling for justice while the Calcutta High Court transferred the case to the CBI.

Protests have erupted across West Bengal following the alleged rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. Students and doctors nationwide are demanding justice for the victim.

Asha Devi, the mother of the 2012 Delhi gang rape victim, Nirbhaya, has called for the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of failing to take appropriate action against the culprits. Instead, Devi claims Banerjee is using her power to divert public attention by leading protests and misleading the public.

Criticism mounts as Banerjee led a protest rally demanding capital punishment for the perpetrators. Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court has transferred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) due to alleged lapses in the police investigation. Asha Devi has emphasized the urgency of swift punishment to prevent such atrocities from recurring.
