In a decisive move, the Maharashtra government suspended three police officials, including a senior police inspector, for alleged negligence in investigating the sexual abuse of two schoolgirls in Badlapur.

Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on X that the senior inspector, assistant sub-inspector, and head constable from the Badlapur police station were immediately suspended. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the case further.

Fadnavis also directed the Thane Police Commissioner to propose trying the case in a fast-track court. Opposition parties criticized the police for making the victims' parents wait 11 hours before registering their complaints.
