Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Saturday unveiled a new drone missile, Palianytsia, intended to bolster Ukraine’s defense efforts against Russia. He highlighted its enhanced capabilities compared to earlier drones Kyiv has deployed, declaring that this new weapon would effectively retaliate against Russian attacks.
“Our enemy will ... know what the Ukrainian way for retaliation is. Worthy, symmetrical, long-ranged,” Zelenskiy said. He noted that Palianytsia had successfully struck a target in Russia, although details were sparse.
Zelenskiy sharply criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, describing him as a “sick old man from Red Square” and dismissing Moscow’s nuclear threats. He also called for expedited support from Kyiv's Western allies to intensify strikes deeper into Russian territory. Ukraine's introduction of Palianytsia signifies a strategic step amidst ongoing conflict and increasing patriotic fervor, coinciding with its Independence Day celebrations. This included ratifying the Rome Statute and banning religious groups linked to Russia.
