Negotiations in Cairo to establish a Gaza ceasefire concluded on Sunday without reaching an agreement. Neither Hamas nor Israel accepted the compromises presented by mediators, according to two Egyptian security sources.

The failure adds to the skepticism surrounding the latest U.S.-backed initiative to halt the 10-month-long war. This comes after months of unfruitful talks aimed at ending Israel's aggressive actions in Gaza and freeing hostages taken by Hamas during an October 7 attack on Israel, which ignited the conflict.

At a Halifax news conference, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Washington remains 'feverishly' engaged in working with Egyptian, Qatari, and Israeli counterparts to secure a ceasefire and hostage release.
