Jai Ram Thakur, Leader of the Opposition in Himachal Pradesh, alleged on Friday that his residence was under surveillance, stating that a drone circled his house and nearly reached his doors and windows.
During the question hour in the Vidhan Sabha, Thakur said he discovered the drone was operated from the nearby residence of Shimla's superintendent of police. Expressing grave concern, he warned the officials to respect boundaries.
Thakur further claimed his phones were being tapped and that plainclothes security personnel had previously monitored his visitors. Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania pledged to investigate the matter.
Refuting these claims, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu asserted no drone surveillance was conducted by his government. Sukhu promised to involve central agencies for a thorough investigation and assured security measures for the opposition leader if necessary.
Unsatisfied with the Chief Minister's response, Thakur accused the police of detaining BJP MLAs for extended periods and called for an inquiry against the officials involved.
