West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and chief ministers of states that have failed to implement effective legislations to safeguard women.
Addressing the assembly after tabling the Aparajita Woman and Child Bill 2024, Banerjee highlighted that the Bill aims for swift investigations, expedited justice delivery, and harsher punishments for offenders.
'Rape is a curse against humanity and social reforms are essential to prevent such crimes,' Banerjee stated. The special Aparajita Task Force, comprising police officials, will ensure time-bound probe completions, once the Bill is passed.
Banerjee described the Bill as 'historic and a model for other states,' asserting that it aims to rectify gaps in central legislation regarding speedy and effective justice for victims. The Bill was later passed unanimously amid tumultuous scenes in the House.
