Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will hold talks with President Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey on Wednesday, marking the first presidential-level visit in 12 years as relations between the regional powers thaw.
This visit follows Erdogan's trip to Cairo in February, which was his first since 2012, and signifies major strides towards rebuilding ties strained for a decade. Turkey and Egypt plan to review their bilateral relationship comprehensively and discuss potential cooperation in the coming periods.
Key topics will include regional and global issues, particularly the Israeli attacks on Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories. Along with deepening ties in energy, defense, tourism, health, education, and culture, the two countries aim to boost trade from $10 billion to $15 billion and have already reappointed ambassadors and signed multiple bilateral agreements.
