The FIR, lodged on August 24 at Lalpur police station, names Marandi, Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri, Union Minister Sanjay Seth, former Minister Arjun Munda, and others, alleging that they were part of a confrontation with police during a BJYM rally in Ranchi on August 23.

During the protest against what they termed the 'injustice' by Hemant Soren's government and its 'failure to fulfill election promises', BJP youth wing workers clashed with police after breaking barricades. The police responded with tear gas, water cannons, and rubber bullets, with both sides reporting injuries.
