Independent councillor Kusum Yadav was appointed acting mayor of Jaipur Heritage Municipal Corporation on Tuesday after Mayor Munesh Gurjar was suspended over bribery charges.
In an order from the local self-government department, it was stated that Yadav's tenure would last for two months.
"My priority will be to enforce a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and ensure the cleanliness of the municipal corporation," said Yadav, following her appointment.
Previously denied a BJP ticket, Yadav won the councillor election as an independent and later supported the BJP. She is also the wife of BJP worker Ajay Yadav.
The suspension of Mayor Gurjar, who is accused of corruption, was ordered by the Rajasthan government following an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) raid that uncovered lease-related documents and large sums of cash at her residence.
The ACB's investigation confirmed the corruption allegations, leading to Gurjar's suspension and the initiation of a judicial inquiry.
