Supreme Court Seeks Assam's Response on Demolition Issue

The Supreme Court has asked the Assam government and others to respond to a plea for initiating contempt proceedings on alleged violation of its order against demolishing properties without permission. The Supreme Court on Monday sought responses from the Assam government and other parties regarding a plea for initiating contempt proceedings over alleged violations of an order against demolishing properties without the court's permission.

The court, led by Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan, instructed parties to maintain the status quo on the matter.

The plea was filed by Senior Advocate Huzefa Ahmadi representing petitioners, contending a breach of the court's directive against demolitions without its consent. Several similar cases are pending in the Supreme Court, which previously stated unauthorized demolitions contradict the 'ethos' of the Constitution.
