In separate incidents, two women attempted suicide during public hearings at government offices in Madhya Pradesh's Betul and Sagar districts on Tuesday, police reported.

One woman ingested poison at the Betul Superintendent of Police (SP) office, while another doused herself with an inflammable substance in Sagar but was halted in time, authorities said.

Public hearings, known as 'Jan-Sunwai,' are held every Tuesday at district collector and SP offices across the state. Both women had longstanding grievances that they felt were ignored, raising questions about the efficacy of these sessions in addressing public concerns.
