The Israeli military reported on Tuesday that Iran has fired missiles at Israel, prompting the army to order residents to remain close to bomb shelters as air raid sirens blared across the nation.
Explosions, which shook windows, were heard in Tel Aviv and near Jerusalem, but it was unclear whether the blasts were caused by missiles landing or being intercepted, or both.
Israel and the U.S. have warned of severe repercussions from an Iranian attack. Israeli spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari stated the air defense systems were operational but not foolproof. Orders to shelter were sent to citizens via mobile and announced on TV. Iranian media posted videos of missile launches, though the Iranian government did not comment. The situation follows Israel's limited ground operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, with airstrikes and artillery fire ramping up regional tensions.
