Congress MPs, including prominent figures Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, gathered in a demonstration on Thursday in the Parliament House about pressing issues in Kerala. The protest addressed the recent spate of deadly wildlife attacks and concerns regarding coastal sand mining activities.
Priyanka Gandhi highlighted the alarming situation in Wayanad, where wildlife attacks have resulted in eleven fatalities since late December. She urged both central and state governments to allocate necessary funds for mitigation efforts, emphasizing the local authorities' struggle due to insufficient resources.
Alongside concerns over wildlife dangers, the MPs, holding placards, demanded action to halt offshore sand mining across Kerala, Gujarat, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Congress MP K C Venugopal stressed that such activities threaten the livelihoods of fishing communities, pressing the need for government intervention to preserve the environment and protect coastal residents' interests.
