Dalai Lama Receives Enhanced Z-Category Security Cover

The Indian government has granted a Z-category armed protection cover to the Dalai Lama amid security threats. The Central Reserve Police Force VIP security wing is responsible for his safety across India. This decision follows a review by central intelligence agencies to ensure consistent security measures.

The Indian government has escalated security measures for the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, by granting him a Z-category armed protection cover due to potential threats, as confirmed by official sources on Thursday.

In a statement, the Union home ministry instructed the Central Reserve Police Force's VIP security wing to oversee the 89-year-old leader's protection nationwide. The Dalai Lama, who previously had minimal security from the Himachal Pradesh Police, will now receive a comprehensive watch by CRPF commandos.

The decision follows thorough assessments by central intelligence agencies, aiming to provide uniform security across the country. A squad of around 30 CRPF commandos will operate in shifts to maintain the Dalai Lama's safety. Similarly, the home ministry has extended Z-category security to BJP leader Sambit Patra in Manipur, highlighting the region's ongoing ethnic tensions.
