India and Indonesia Sign Historic MoU on Traditional Medicine Quality Assurance

In a landmark event strengthening bilateral ties, Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and President of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, witnessed the exchange of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between India and Indonesia at Hyderabad House, New Delhi, on January 25, 2025. Among these was a pivotal MoU on Traditional Medicine Quality Assurance, exchanged between the Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homeopathy (PCIM&H), Ministry of Ayush, and the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority.
Elevating Global Standards in Traditional Medicine
Highlighting the significance of this MoU, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, stated, "This collaboration will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, efficacy, and quality of traditional medicines, setting the stage for a more integrated and scientifically regulated approach to this valuable healthcare system." The Minister added that the agreement is set to elevate global standards in traditional medicine practices.
A Strategic Collaboration for Knowledge Exchange and Capacity Building
Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership, noting that it fosters greater knowledge exchange, capacity building, and strengthens traditional medicine's role in global healthcare. He added, "Through this collaboration, we aim to reinforce quality standards in Indian medicine and homoeopathy. The Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homeopathy (PCIM&H) is an IS/ISO 9001:2015 certified institution dedicated to Quality Management Systems (QMS)."
