The Odisha assembly descended into chaos on Friday as legislators from the BJD and Congress disrupted proceedings, protesting against the state's law and order situation and claims of mismanagement in paddy procurement.
The commotion began even before Speaker Surama Padhy could take her seat, with opposition members demanding a discussion on these pressing issues and blaming the BJP government for alleged mismanagement. The House had to be adjourned till noon due to the uproar.
BJD's deputy leader, Prasanna Acharya, emphasized the distress faced by farmers, while BJD MLA Ganeswar Behera criticized inadequate government support. The opposition insisted on a detailed discussion, noting the severe impact on farmers across 14 districts, worsened by recent unseasonal rains.
