Kremlin Seeks Clarity on U.S. Military Leverage in Ukraine Peace Talks
The Kremlin expressed interest in receiving clarification from the U.S. regarding Vice President JD Vance's remarks on using military and economic levers in Ukraine peace discussions. Moscow highlighted its surprise at this new stance and the need for further dialogue with the U.S. on Ukraine-related diplomatic channels.
The Kremlin on Friday requested that the United States provide clarification on recent statements made by Vice President JD Vance regarding the use of military and economic levers to press Russia for a peace deal with Ukraine. The remarks came amidst a tense backdrop of international scrutiny over U.S. President Donald Trump's call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted that this was the first time such military leverage had been mentioned and reiterated the need for more information on the U.S. position. Furthermore, Peskov stated that Russia is open to further discussions to gain clarity on this matter.
In related news, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that Russian officials would not participate in the Munich Security Conference due to not receiving an invitation. The absence opens questions about future diplomatic engagements with the U.S. and Ukraine on finding a resolution to the three-year-long conflict.
