The Cachar district administration in Assam has implemented a night curfew along the India-Bangladesh border, as announced on Tuesday. This step aims to thwart the movement of extremist elements and the illegal smuggling of cattle and goods across the border.
The order, proclaimed by Cachar District Magistrate Mridul Yadav, is enacted under Section 163 of the BNSS to maintain public order and curtail illegal activities. The directive underscores the urgency of preventive measures to tackle potential threats to regional peace and security.
Effective immediately and lasting for two months, the curfew restricts movement within a one-kilometre belt from sundown to sunrise. Special permissions are required for certain activities, with strict limitations placed on the transportation of essential commodities. Government employees on duty are exempt from these restrictions.
