Thane Police Sub-Inspector Arrested for Bribery

A police sub-inspector in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. Initially demanding Rs 80,000 to drop charges in a murder attempt case, the officer settled for Rs 25,000. The Anti-Corruption Bureau caught him accepting the bribe and arrested him.

A police sub-inspector from Maharashtra’s Thane district was arrested on charges of bribery, authorities confirmed. The officer, stationed in Bhiwandi, allegedly extorted Rs 10,000 after reducing an original demand of Rs 80,000 in exchange for excluding a complainant from a criminal case, according to officials.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) took action when the complainant reported the corruption attempt. A sting operation was organized to catch the sub-inspector in the act of accepting the illegal payment. The officer was arrested on Saturday while taking the bribe.
