Escalating Violence Forces MSF to Suspend Aid in Sudan's Famine Zone

Medical charity MSF has suspended operations in the Zamzam displacement camp in North Darfur, Sudan, due to escalating violence. Despite severe famine and humanitarian needs, increasing attacks forced the halt, affecting services including a field hospital which treated 139 conflict-related injuries this month.

Escalating violence in Sudan's North Darfur has compelled the medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) to cease its operations at the Zamzam displacement camp, an area suffering from severe famine. The organization announced the suspension on Monday, citing frequent attacks impeding their aid efforts.

In a statement distributed to journalists, MSF expressed their dismay, explaining that despite widespread starvation and significant humanitarian needs, the situation left them with no alternative but to halt all camp activities, including services at their field hospital.

This month alone, MSF teams have attended to 139 patients with gunshot and shrapnel wounds amidst ongoing clashes between Sudanese army forces and the paramilitary group, Rapid Support Forces.
