The Western Command of the BSF, based in Chandigarh, spearheads this initiative by establishing nine tactical headquarters, which bring intelligence and operational resources closer to the border. These forward bases, known as 'tac headquarters', are further supported by senior commanders from multiple divisions, including battalion commanding officers, to ensure robust monitoring and response.

The decision, driven by recent threats of cross-border infiltration and aerial incursions, mandates immediate implementation of these security measures. However, the requirement for commanding officers to remain stationed at tactical headquarters has raised concerns about potential disruptions in command and administrative functions, as these officers oversee multiple units spread across the region.
