Shocking Crime: Auto-Rickshaw Driver Arrested for Brutal Attack on Estranged Wife

In a horrific incident from Thane, Maharashtra, a 35-year-old auto-rickshaw driver has been apprehended for attempting to murder his estranged wife, officials reported on Wednesday. The accused allegedly set the woman ablaze following a prolonged domestic dispute.

The couple's relationship had been strained, leading to the wife living separately. The driver, suspecting her character, harassed her repeatedly, according to a statement from Chitalsar police, quoting the victim's complaint. Their divorce case remains pending in court.

The attack occurred as the wife was en route to work, when the accused intercepted her at the Borivali tunnel construction site, attacked her with an iron rod, and set her on fire. Bystanders intervened to put out the fire and transported her to a hospital. The attacker faces charges under section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
