The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to intervene in the Madhya Pradesh High Court's ruling regarding the relocation and disposal of toxic waste from the catastrophic 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy.
Justices B R Gavai and A G Masih refused to halt the trial run for disposing of the waste at the Union Carbide India Ltd plant, noting that various experts had already provided their assessments, which were considered by the high court and an expert panel.
The court advised concerned parties, including civil society groups, to approach the high court for any grievances. Previously, authorities had been asked to report precautions taken for the disposal of 377 tonnes of hazardous waste, relocated to Pithampur, 30 km from Indore, for treatment.
