PARIS, Feb 27 (Reuters) - A notorious French bank robber, Antonio Ferrara, dubbed the 'jailbreak king', was apprehended following international cooperation. His arrest was confirmed on Thursday by French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau.
Ferrara was taken into custody in Belgium in connection with an attempted robbery in Germany. Minister Retailleau took to social media to commend both the police and Belgian authorities for their outstanding collaboration in the arrest.
Ferrara gained infamy for dramatically escaping Fresnes maximum security prison in 2003. This escape, aided by armed associates, was followed by a lengthy 17-year sentence, from which he was released in 2022. His criminal career continues to capture public attention.
