The Jharkhand assembly was engulfed in chaos on Monday as opposition BJP lawmakers raised an uproar over the state's alleged deteriorating law and order situation. They stormed the well of the House, demanding a debate on the topic.
Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi pointed to a shooting incident involving a coal trader in Ranchi and the murders of two individuals, including a seer, as evidence of the 'crumbling' law and order. An NTPC official was also reportedly killed, further fueling outrage.
In response to the turmoil, Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato adjourned the assembly, only for the disruption to resume upon reconvening, with BJP MLA C P Singh insisting on a response from the ruling JMM-led coalition. Concurrently, JD(U) MLA Saryu Roy challenged the government on Jamshedpur's industrial town declaration, alleging it violated the Municipality Act.
